About Tammy Hartmann

As an artist I strive to capture that moment in time when the light and the subject come together to create that perfect moment which can never be repeated.

I was born in Dauphin Manitoba and moved to B.C. in 1966 While my mother took up painting watercolour landscapes after her retirement, it wasn’t until I retired to the seaside town of Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast that I was able to pursue my passion of art. As an educator and teacher of children's art, I know that the best way to learn is to engage in the process of learning. After an introductory class in watercolour I explored the joys of this medium. The fun was just starting!  After meeting well known Coast artist Ed Hill in the outrigger paddling community, I was grateful to learn and grow as an artist under his tutelage. Acrylics became my medium of choice. As my mentor, Ed’s work has influenced my style and attention to detail. Like Ed, I write the story behind every painting which completes the process and provides meaning to the viewer.

My work is inspired by the beautiful landscape where I live and play--when  paddling, hiking, biking or gardening I’m listening for my next painting to call my name.
